Best Powerup Ever or BESTEST Powerup Ever? 2007 October 23 With a handful of promising titles for Nintendo's Wii console coming out in the next couple of months, it is surprising that Super Smash Bros. Brawl manages to drain all the hype for itself. I guess the "Dojo" was a great marketing stategy. But even so, we must not forget there are some interesting stuff over the horizon for the little white box; namely Mario's upcoming solo adventure (which isn't that solo, as there's an interesting 2-player co-op mode available), among others (Batallion Wars 2, anyone? Come on, I couldn't have been the only person who played and enjoyed the Gamecube original). The plumber's new game looks definitely promising. When you thought we had enough with crazy physics in the Mario universe, Nintendo takes the next step and makes things completely wacky. It already seems more fun than Sunshine, and all the critics are loving the game. Of course, they loved Twilight Princess too... *shrug* In any case, I've been looking at recent gameplay videos. One of them showcases powerups. The classic Fire Flower and Starman from the very first Super Mario Bros. are both back, this time in full 3-D. That's amazing. And now there's also an item (it kinda looked like a flower in the video but I'm not sure) that covers Mario in ice. One would think this would grant him awesome abilities such as freezing enemies and manipulating ice blocks, but everything the plumber did in the movie was... walk across water. The water around Mario's feet would feeze and he'd be able to walk over it. And that's where the idea for this... "comic" came from. I blame my friend Travis, but now everytime I hear something about someone running across water, I can't help but go "Jesus lol". That was quite a feat God's son did back then, no? In any case, I'm pretty sure Nintendo would NEVER come up with such a powerup, but after seeing the Bee suit... You can't help but wonder what they'll think of next. |
